1J85 is an iron-nickel soft magnetic alloy, also commonly known as Permalloy. It has the following characteristics:

1. Chemical composition: mainly contains about 79.0%~81.0% nickel (Ni), residual iron (Fe), and a certain amount of manganese (Mn, 0.3%~0.6%), silicon (Si, 0.15%~0.3%), molybdenum (Mo, 4.8%~5.2%), etc., the specific composition ratio is: C 0.03% or less, P, S acuities were 0.02% and 0.02% or less, Mn, Si = 0.15 = 0.30 ~ 0.60% ~ 0.30%, Ni, Mo = 4.80 = 79.0 ~ 81.0% ~ 5.20%, Cu 0.20% or less, Fe for allowance.

2. Magnetic properties: with high initial permeability and quite high maximum permeability, very low coercivity and low loss value, excellent performance in low magnetic field.

3. Physical properties: the density is 8.75g/cm³, the resistivity at 20℃ is 0.56Ωmm²/m, the coefficient of linear expansion (20℃~200℃) is 10.9~11.2×10-6/℃, the Curie point is 400℃, and the saturation magnetostrictive coefficient λθ/10-6 is about 0.5.

4. Other properties: good anti-rust properties and processing properties.

5. 1J85 soft magnetic alloy is widely used in radio electronics industry, precision instruments, remote control and automatic control systems and other fields, the specific uses include:
– High permeability yoke iron.
– Sensitive relay.
– Low loss micro motor, small power supply transformer, pulse transformer.
– Transistor switches, magnetic amplifiers, magnetic modulators.
– Sensitive signal input and output transformer.
– Magnetic sensor of airborne magnetic heading instrument, magnetic sensor in magnetic measuring equipment. Magnetic shielding elements, etc.
The disadvantage is that it is not very malleable or practical, and in applications that require complex shapes, such as magnetic shielding, it may be made of other alloys with high permeability.
In actual use, in order to reduce eddy current losses and maintain good magnetic properties, 1J85 usually needs to be made into a thin sheet (strip), and the surface insulation treatment, or to form an oxidized insulation layer on its surface. At the same time, because its magnetism is sensitive to internal stress and impurities, the formed components need to be annealed at high temperature in a protective atmosphere or vacuum to purify the material, eliminate internal stress and improve magnetic properties. In the use and transportation process, should also avoid vibration, extrusion, impact, etc.
