Hastelloy X

Hastelloy X is a Ni-cr-Mo alloy with cobalt and tungsten added. Hastelloy X alloy has excellent oxidation resistance at temperatures up to 1200°C and can also be used in neutral and reducing atmospheres. Hastelloy X alloys are also resistant to carbonization and nitriding atmospheres. Hastelloy X has good oxidation and corrosion resistance, moderate durability and 900°C creep strength, good cold and hot working formability and weldability. Suitable for the manufacture of aeroengine combustion chamber parts and other high temperature parts. It can be used for a long time below 900℃, and the short-term working temperature can reach 1080℃.

Process properties and requirements of Hastelloy X

The alloy has good cold and hot workability, and the forging heating temperature is 1170℃.
The average grain size of the alloy is closely related to the deformation degree and the final forging temperature.
The alloy has good welding performance and can be welded by argon arc welding, seam welding, spot welding and other methods.
The alloy can be added directly to the furnace which has been heated to the highest operating temperature. After the necessary holding time, out of the oven, processing into the specified specifications. If the metal temperature is below the minimum working temperature, it needs to be reheated.
The adhesion between the oxide and the slag around the weld is stronger than that of the stainless steel. It is recommended to use fine-grained abrasive belt or fine-grained grinding wheel for grinding.

Heat treatment

Forged forms of HASTELLOY X alloys are available under solution heat treatment conditions. Alloy X is typically treated at 2150°F (1177°C) with solution heat treatment and is cooled rapidly. Bright annealing products are cooled in hydrogen gas. Annealing at temperatures lower than solid solution heat treatment may result in secondary phase precipitation, which may affect the strength and ductility of the alloy.

Hastelloy X Application

Industrial and aerospace turbines (combustion chambers, rectifiers, structural covers)
Industrial furnace components, support rolls, grilles, belts and radiation tubes
Spiral tube of petrochemical furnace
